Household Goods Carriers - Frequently Asked Questions

Q1. Which application do I need to complete to transport household goods from one household to another in Georgia?
A. All Carriers performing intrastate household goods moves will need to obtain a Certificate. This certificate can be obtained by completing Form TR0006.
Q2. How long will it take to obtain a Certificate?
A. 6 to 8 weeks
Q3. Is this authority permanent?
A. No. New authority is issued on a 12-month interim period. Prior to the end of the interim period, the PSC staff will conduct an audit of the carrier's records to determine the actual need for service and if carrier is in compliance with all PSC Transportation rules and regulations.
Q4. Once authority is obtained, are there any annual costs?
A. Vehicle Identification Stamps are required each year at a cost of $5.00 per vehicle. To obtain vehicle stamps complete Form IR-1 for each vehicle.
Q5. What authority does a carrier need to perform office moves?
A. To perform office moves the carrier will need to complete a Motor Carrier of Property Permit. The application form can be obtained from the forms section of Motor Vehicle Services. Property Permit Application
Q6. Are rates regulated?
A. Household goods rates are regulated and subject to the Maximum Rate Tariff; however, rates are not regulated for office moves.
Q7. Can a carrier charge for travel time or an hourly minimum?
A. No, the carrier can only charge the prescribed rates that are listed in the Maximum Rate Tariff.
Q8. What are the minimum Insurance Limits required for household goods carriers by the State?
A. Currently, the limits are as follows:
Public Liability and Property Damage Insurance
Type of equipment Limit for bodily injury to or death of one person: Limit of bodily injuries to or death of all persons injured or killed in any one accident (subject to a maximum of $100,000 for bodily injuries to or death of one person): Limit for loss or damage in any one accident to property of others (excluding cargo):
Freight equipment: All motor vehicles used in the transportation of property $100,000.00 $300,000.00 $50,000.00
